4:12Now PlayingAfter five hours of debate Friday, March 23rd, the Senate passed its version of a proposed constitutional amendment requiring voters to present a photo identification in order to have their vote counted. The bill, HF 2738, will eventually be sent to conference committee, where differences between the House and Senate versions will need to be resolved.
Unlike the House bill, the Senate measure would allow government-issued "or equivalent" identification, thus allowing private-college students to use their school identification card as would public college students. The language, according to amendment author Sen. John Howe, R-Red Wing, also allows for use of future technology.
