While the nation faces an unemployement rate of 8.3 percent, the state's unemployment rate is 5.8 percent. In this week's program, Julie takes a long-term perspective on job growth in the state.
Steve Hine, DEED Research Director, joins Julie to talk about Minnesota's employment trends. Senator Ted Lillie, Vice Chair of the Senate Jobs and Economic Growth Committee, features some of the recent legislative efforts to improve the state's employment outlook and offers his perspective on work yet to be accomplished. A military veteran himself, Sen. Ted Daley, R-Eagan, explains Minnesota's effort to improve employment opportunities for veterans, many of whom struggle to find gainful employment. Finally, Sen. John Marty, DFL-Roseville, calls for spurring job growth in the public sector, including hiring more teachers and public infrastructure contruction workers.
