22:41Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton met with the press corps Monday, July 8, following an extended absence from the media spotlight. His return to the Capitol follows his recovery from a hip injury, which limited his public appearances.
During his availability, the Capitol press corps pressed Governor Dayton on his views of the State Capitol renovation project. He said that self-interest will have to be pushed aside by him, lawmakers and the tenants of the building in order to restore the building and make it functional for the next 100 years.
Another topic during the media availability focused on the GOP leaders' call for a special session to repeal the sales tax on warehousing services. (See press conferences tab on the left.) Governor Dayton cited their call as a "grandstanding stunt."
Finally, the Governor answered questions regarding his ideas for new transportation revenue and a capital improvements bill.
