30:02Now PlayingSF 1641, a bill authorizing the use of medical marijuana, won Senate approval Tuesday, May 6, on a 48-18 vote. Sponsored by Senator Scott Dibble, DFL-Mpls., the measure is sent to the House of Representatives, where a significantly different proposal is under consideration.
Under the Senate bill, seriously ill patients would be able to access medical marijuana if they have a prescription from a doctor or a Minnesota-licensed psychiatrist. The marijuana could be used in vapor or other forms, such as a pill or oil, but it would not be legal to smoke it. The amount a patient can have in possession is limited to 2.5 ounces.
Patients using medical marijuana in vapor form would not be allowed to use it in public places, similar to bans applied to smoking.
