17:12Now PlayingOn a 27-36 vote, the Senate rejected an amendment to the omnibus game and fish bill that would have reinstated a five-year waiting period for wolf hunting. Proposed by Senator Chris Eaton, DFL-Brooklyn Center, the waiting period would have remained in place until studies demonstrated that wolf population management was necessary and full public comment on wolf hunting was completed.
Eaton argued that hunting and trapping is not necessary to control the wolf population, and she said the Dept. of Natural Resources has not established a maximum population number for the wolves. Opponents to the waiting period said that wolf management should be managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources and that the delisting period started 14 years ago.
