9:39Now PlayingThe Senate Health, Human Services and Housing Committee granted its approval Monday, February 9, of a measure intended to help families with disabled beneficiaries plan for the future. According to Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, the bill's sponsor, the proposal allows the families to open accounts "that resemble the qualified tuition programs also known as the 529 accounts." The federal government recently enacted legislation allowing families meeting certain eligibility requirements to establish the special financial account.
