36:01Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton, students and anti-smoking advocates call upon legislators to repeal the premium cigar tax break and restore the automatic inflationary tax increase on cigarettes. Both tax breaks were included in the omnibus tax bill, which the legislature passed and Governor Mark Dayton signed into law. Governor Dayton is calling upon legislative leaders to reconsider the 2017 session action, and he has vetoed funding for the legislature in hopes of bringing the Republican leaders to the negotiation table. In previous action, Speaker Kurt Daudt and Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka have said the defunding of the legislature in unconstitutional and are seeking court action to reverse the veto.
