13:02Now PlayingIn response to the recent school shooting at Parkland High School in Florida, lawmakers across the country are focusing their efforts to protect students by increasing school safety measures. The Senate E-12 Education Finance Committee reviewed several bills Monday, April 9, that focus on aiding school districts to finance safety improvements and to help teachers better assist students facing mental health issues. They also considered a bill that would enhance cyber security in the schools.
In referencing the various bills confronting school safety challenges, Grace Keliher of the Minnesota School Boards Association, said, " It is a very large issue in our school districts as we all sort of struggle to find the right amount of security going forward."
The bills under consideration will be considered for inclusion in an omnibus education finance bill that will be debated in the coming weeks.
