31:49Now PlayingCelebrity Chef Andrew Zimmern appeared before the Capital Investment Committee Tuesday, April 17, to advocate support for the construction of a new charitable food warehouse for the food support organization Second Harvest Heartland.
"The food that Second Harvest Heartland distributes to its network of food shelves and food banks reaches communities in every single corner of the state," Zimmern said. "We all know the statistics. Hunger impacts one in ten Minnesotans. One in six Minnesota children do not have enough food to eat. That is not a shameful statistic. In my estimation, that is a criminal statistic, hungry children in a state that has the food to feed them. We just don't have the funnel big enough until we fund Second Harvest Heartland..." he added.
The measure, sponsored by Senator Paul Anderson, R-Plymouth, seeks $18 million dollars from bond proceeds for the new warehouse and distribution center, which would be located in Brooklyn Park. The committee laid the bill on the table for possible inclusion into the omnibus bonding bill
