28:31Now PlayingSince 2010, control of the Minnesota Senate has fluctuated between the Republicans and the DFLers with each election cycle. The Republicans currently hold a three-vote majority, and the results of the 2020 election will impact how the state handles redistricting, the COVID-19 response and the looming budget deficit. It is Majority Leader Paul Gazelka's job to keep control of the Senate, and it is Minority Leader Susan Kent's goal to secure a majority. In late summer, Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke spoke with both leaders about their respective caucus priorities.
Also, after months of uncertainly, the legislature came together during the recent Fifth Special Session to pass a nearly $1.9 billion dollar package of public works infrastructure projects.
