3:08Now PlayingEmployers will be held harmless for employee layoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic under a bill passed unanimously by the Senate Monday, January 25. Senator Eric Pratt, R-Prior Lake, the bill’s author, called the bill “technical and simple”.
Under normal circumstances, employers pay higher unemployment insurance premiums, called experience ratings, based on how many laid off employees seek unemployment benefits. SF 192 would not penalize employers for pandemic-related layoffs. In addition, the measure provides more time for the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to calculate future experience ratings and holds taxable income flat at 2020 levels.
