Senator Karin Housley, R-Stillwater, chair of the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee, was joined by fellow committee members Senator Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, and Senator Mark Koran, R-North Branch, in expressing frustration over the changing protocols and confusion in COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
To illustrate seniors’ dilemmas, Housley shared the story of Bill Johnson, an 87-year-old air force veteran, whose age and underlying health conditions prevent him from speaking on his own behalf until he receives a vaccination. “Every day that goes by that a senior doesn’t get the vaccine is another day their life is at risk. We understand that there’s a limited supply of vaccines…all the more reason we need to prioritize the vaccines that we do get,” she said.
