13:09Now PlayingAdvocates for school choice gathered in front of the State Capitol Thursday, June 10, in hopes of encouraging Governor Tim Walz to meet with them. They called upon Walz to hear their rationale for supporting a Senate proposal that would establish an education savings account (ESA) program. Money in the savings account would allow parents and students to attend the school of their choice.
"It is immoral to leave children trapped in failing schools," said Senator Michelle Benson, R - Ham Lake. "ESAs would give families a path forward."
The proposed education savings account program was approved by the Senate during the 2021 regular session and remains an issue for the education finance and policy working group. Lawmakers have until June 30 to enact a two-year state budget, including education funding.
