41:21Now PlayingAmid the World War II Memorial on the Minnesota Capitol Mall, Governor Tim Walz and veterans advocates gathered Tuesday, August 10, for a ceremonial bill signing of the Veterans Restorative Justice Act. The new law expands the veterans court program, which allows veterans an alternative pathway of treatment and rehabilitation for some crimes related to post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, across the entire state.
Larry Herke, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, said, “This is an opportunity for those veterans that are having those difficulties with the reintegration to be able to have some help and assistance, something other than just going to jail. This gives an opportunity for them to be able to have another path.”
