49:57Now PlayingA bipartisan group of lawmakers joined members of an independent review panel to praise the release of a driver and vehicle services report Thursday, January 20. According to Senate Transportation Chair Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, the report is “really going to effect, directly, an awful lot of people.”
The Independent Expert Review (IER) resulted from a law passed during the 2021 special legislative session to look into a number of unresolved and ongoing concerns with the state’s driver and vehicle services system. The report offers 31 recommendations for the legislature to consider in the coming legislative session, including the optimal number of driving exam stations, fee structures for Deputy Registrars and lengthening the number of years for which a driver’s license is valid to eight years.
“Now we have a report where there are some specific recommendations that the legislature and the Department of Public Safety can take a look at and try and improve the services for the people in the state of Minnesota,” said Senator Newman.
