Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller announced his caucus’s proposal to allow the House to determine eligibility for the $250 million in pandemic frontline worker bonuses in exchange for passage of $2.7 billion to replenish the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund.
Without a deal to backfill the unemployment fund, businesses face a tax hike. A deal to award hero pay to people who continued working early in the pandemic was reached last summer, but the legislature has since failed to determine who would be eligible and how much they should receive.
Other topics the Governor and leaders continue to wade through involve extending the Minnesota Premium Security Plan, also known as reinsurance, and a bill to fund capital improvement projects statewide.
