1:10:55Now PlayingOn a 65-1 vote, the Senate gave its final approval to the conference committee report on 2677, a bill replenishing the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund and providing bonus pay to frontline workers.
About $500 million will be made available to provide bonuses of $750 to the approximately 667,000 eligible workers who continued working during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The measure also includes $2.7 billion to pay off the federal debt in the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund and replenish the fund to near-pre-pandemic levels, a priority for both Governor Tim Walz and Senate Republicans. Without the measure, Minnesota businesses would have sees a significant increase in payroll taxes.
The bill was sent to the House for their approval and will be forwarded Governor Tim Walz for his signature.
