30:26Now PlayingGovernor Tim Walz, accompanied by military leaders, legislators, service members and veterans, held a ceremonial bill signing within the World War II Memorial at the Minnesota State Capitol Thursday, June 2.
Walz signed two bills on an historic table made by a Minnesota veteran. The $65 million omnibus veterans bill offers service bonuses to post-9/11 era veterans and Gold Star families, contains measures to combat veteran homelessness and provides supplemental funding for new veterans homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston. He also signed a bill that expands eligibility for reenlistment bonuses to Minnesota National Guard members.
Governor Walz said that he hopes the bipartisan work that went into the omnibus veterans bill, which passed as a stand-alone bill, will set a precedent. “Let’s make sure that we can tell veterans we will never trade a good policy on veterans issues for another issue,” he said.
