22:48Now PlayingA $90 million dollar initiative to improve mental health services received top billing Tuesday, June 7, when Governor Tim Walz held a ceremonial bill signing at Children's Minnesota.
The bill provides $60 million to increase hospital bed capacity, recruit mental health professionals and deploy additional mobile crisis units. The bill further provides $30 million to aid services for persons who are not competent to stand trial.
Parent Stevie Borne spoke of her child's struggles with mental health and the challenges they faced when securing treatment. According to Borne, her child said when learning of the bill, "That's great mom. Now kids don't have to wait 72 hours in the ER like I did."
