Xcel Energy and State Officials Explain Leak at Xcel's Nuclear Plant

Officials representing Northern States Power, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Health appeared before a joint meeting of the Senate’s environment and energy committees Wednesday, April 12, to provide details about the Tritium leak late last year at the Monticello Nuclear Power Plant.

According to Kirk Koudelka of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency , the leak ihas not posed a threat to the area's drinking water or the Mississippi River. Chris Clark, President of Xcel Energy, said that the organization knew that it was not dealing with an immediate health or safety threat to the environment, surrounding communities or Xcel Energy employees when the leak was identified.
