12:00Now PlayingThere's a tough choice ahead when it comes to making decisions about the future of energy in Minnesota. Experts before the Senate’s Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee testified that the state's current energy producers will not be able to meet the demand as usage increases and the state works to meet its goal of being carbon neutral by 2040.
Now, senators are considering the state’s options, such as investing in renewable energy sources like wind and solar or lifting its nuclear moratorium. Senator Andrew Mathews, R-Princeton, has authored Senate File 350 to lift the state’s nuclear moratorium. He shares with Senate Spotlight’s Veronica Marshall his inspiration behind the bill, as well as, the recent innovations that have made nuclear energy safer.
