22:08Now PlayingMinnesota started teaming up with managed care organizations (MCOs) and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) decades ago with a goal to help cut costs and make state health plans work better. Now, Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, says the system has proven itself to be inefficient and damaging for patients. This session, he introduced Senate File 3612, which would remove insurance companies from state-sponsored healthcare programs and instead have counties and other local government agencies work with and pay healthcare providers directly. Senator Marty says this would remove barriers to care, create better outcomes for medical providers and patients, and also help the state's budget.
