The Karnataka government had, in fact, deferred the Supreme Court order to release 6000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu citing severe drinking water crisis in the state. The Karnataka Assembly had also passed a resolution to this effect. Over the weekend, the Karnataka government had conducted a study tour of all the dams to assess the severity of the situation in the state. Additionally, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has shot off another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring his attention to the matter.
