Question: I purchased a property in Thane in 2009. I paid the builder all the dues and took peaceful possession at the end of 2010. The builder gave homeowners notices in 2012 to pay 2.17% VAT. Why can't they charge VAT at the flat rate of 1%?
Answer: There is a composition rate of 1% which is usually what a builder charges as it is simple and transparent. This is what you must insist upon with your builder.
