as posted by the channelNews coming in from Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, where violent clashes broke out because of the murder of a local leader. Nearly 25 boats were torched and several huts and shops were set ablaze. The two groups involved in the clashes were reportedly political rivals and had held enmity since last year’s local body polls, according to the police.
50 people have been detained by the police from the village in connection with the violence, rioting and arson. While several people suffered injuries in the clashes and were admitted to the Cuddalore government hospital, heavy security has been deployed in that area.
