26:43Now PlayingOn The Urban Debate today, Sahar Zaman talks about the food that was promised to the poor migrants amid the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Central Government had promised 5kg foodgrains to migrants. However, only 33% of grains were distributed by States.
Bihar, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Rajasthan and many other states have awfully failed to allot said food. Only Odisha is one such state which managed to give almost all the foodgrains meant under the scheme.
Have states failed to feed the poor and jobless?
‘Announcement without a background planning & a blueprint would have always led to this. System of delivery from Central Government godowns & its picking by States hasn't been seamless’ says, JKA Convenor, Avik Saha.
While Congress’ Charan Sapra says, ‘33% usage is a worrisome situation for the entire country. 80% of the states have taken 100% of the stock but yet in states like Andhra, Telangana, Gujarat, Goa there has been distribution of 2-3 %’, BJP’s Vivek Reddy states, ‘Though the Central Government is a funder, the nodal agency for execution are the states. It is the states’ concern to identify the Migrants and reach out to them’.
