In a ray of hope, 600-acres in India's financial capital, Mumbai has been marked as reserve forest which means no development will happen on this 600-acre land.
The decision comes after a long movement by environmentalists to save Aarey forest in Mumbai which had been chosen for metro car shed project. However, the metro car shed project is not part of the 600-acre land. Already over 2000 trees have been cut for this project and now the government has stalled the work on this project and looking for alternate sites.
Residents have welcomed this declaration as to the first step towards conservation of Aarey forest.
