41:39Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss, the farmer ordinance bill proposed in the Parliament and the protests thereafter. Lok Sabha has now passed the contentious Essential Commodities, Bill. Why are farmers protesting the ordinances? Are the ordinances anti-farmer?
The farmers have protested in Punjab, Haryana and North-Eastern States. According to them, their requests have not been considered. This bill will impact their Minimum Support Price (MSP) privilege. Rakesh Tikait of Bharatiya Kisan Union says the private mandis will shut down after 2 years on which tax has to be paid. The farmers stocking capacity is also an issue which is not addressed in the bill. This is objectionable.
As per the 7th schedule of the Constitution, the agriculture & Mandis are state subject. The promulgation of an ordinance of GOI without taking into consideration the State is questionable says Professor Gourav Vallabh of Congress.
