In the Chamoli district, Governor Baby Rani Maurya also visited the tunnel rescue site. To take stock of the ongoing rescue operation, she met with ITBP officials.
Owing to an increase in the amount of water in the Rishiganga River, the rescue operation in the Chamoli district was temporarily halted. Kumar said that orders were given to vacate the downstream regions. The rescue operation in the tunnel was temporarily halted as the unit broke down, Kumar said. "We were undertaking rescue operation in the big tunnel to remove debris till yesterday. We have also started drilling in a smaller diameter tunnel to see what is inside. But it has been suspended temporarily as the machine broke down," Kumar said.
