The jungle mahal area of West Bengal goes to polling in the first phase today, while the upper and north Assam will be going to polling today. In West Bengal, the Bhartiya Janata Party is the main contender to the TMC, while the Congress party has taken a back seat over the course of years in West Bengal. In Assam too, the BJP is trying its best to defeat the Congress-AIUDF alliance and to bring a saffron wave in the Assam as well. 47 seats in the 12 districts of Assam will be contesting elections today and the rest of the phases of Assam and West Bengal elections will be held later.
