43:29Now PlayingMirror Now brings you a special broadcast ahead of the results of the 4 states and 1UT. The results for the assembly elections will be declared on May 2nd. It is one of its kind of polls with 5 states battling for power. However, the elections in the state of West Bengal continued even after the COVID cases were on a rise. West Bengal's 8th phase of election wrapped up today with over a 76% voter turnout till 5pm. What is shocking is how the COVID crisis and the case count did not bother the leaders who went on with their election rallies in the states, leading to a steep spike in the COVID-19 cases across states. Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, all the states have been hit by the pandemic but they continues with their election rallies, keeping the lives of voters at risk.
Problem is, while it is important to ensure people's health remains fine, it is equally important that the health of democracy is maintained as well, which is only possible through elections, says Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay, Senior Journalist.
