Two people were injured in the accident at the illegal firecracker factory near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district. The rescue operations are underway and more details are awaited. Sivakasi town is known as the country's fireworks capital and has seen frequent accidents like these. This town is known as kutti or mini Japan for its manufacturing activities, producing nearly 90% of the country’s firecrackers. Every year, crackers are manufactured with an industry value of ₹2,000 crores.
In the past, firecracker manufacturing units have supplied 95% of India's firecrackers, which generated revenues of around $800 million. Listen in!
