At least 1,000 people were at the site without masks or following any social distancing. The reason behind the protest is the State government's decision against the Jayalalitha University which the previous AIADMK government proposed, to abandon the merger of Jayalalithaa University with Annamalai University. The university was started in the name of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at Villupuram Thiruvika Verdi and Vice-Chancellor was appointed.
