Retail inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) rose to 5.59 per cent for December, data released by the government showed on Wednesday. The inflation figures for November were recorded at 4.91 per cent. Food prices, which contribute to nearly half of the CPI, rose 4.05 per cent year-on-year in December, compared with 1.87 per cent in the previous month. The spike in inflation numbers is mainly on account of an uptick in food prices. Annual core inflation, excluding volatile food and energy prices, was estimated at between 6 per cent and 6.01 per cent in December. Keep Watching To Know More!
