Activists out there claim that the officials of Sterlite plants are luring locals of Tuticorin by giving them money and other freebies to gain their support. This support is needed to reopen the plant that got shut down back in 2018 after the police shot at protesting workers outside the plant who were demanding the closure of the plant. The police firing at that moment claimed 13 lives. Now, the plant is back again in the spotlight after the shocking claims made by activists.
