9:05Now PlayingIn this edition of Urban Debate with Heena Gambhir, we take a look at the Supreme Court ruling on the GST council and its status. The court today, in a significant order, determined that the role of the Goods and Services Tax's council is recommendary, and not binding to the Union and states. That it only has persuasive powers. It also added that the legislators of the country function simultaneously and are not binding to the council's recommendation. It is considered to be an important groundbreaking ruling from the Supreme Court which is laying out the contours of the central government and the state government's powers.
