According to sources, as many as 24 female students of the Government First Grade College in Uppinangady have been suspended till Saturday for demanding to wear hijab to class despite repeated warnings. This came after a similar move last week. The same college, affiliated with Mangalore University, had suspended four girls who attended classes wearing hijab. Tuesday’s incident comes as the government of Karnataka has issued guidelines for schools and colleges making uniforms compulsory for students.
