4:31Now PlayingOn 15 June 2022, when Aditya Thackeray visited Ayodhya, he said, he and his fellow Shiv Sainiks were simply there to seek Ram Lalla’s blessings and that the visit was not a “show of strength”. Taking a jibe at BJP, he reiterated how the party’s HINDUTVA is “clean” and that whether they were in power, lost the elections or won – Shiv Sena has always fulfilled its electoral promises.
On 20 June 2022, which was also Father’s Day, and a day after Shiv Sena Foundation Day celebrated on 19 June every year; the party took the platform and said Balasaheb Thackeray was the “Father of Hindutva”. He also said made a pointed attack at the BJP and said there was no point of taking Lord Ram’s name if the youth doesn’t have jobs.
Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde became Maharashtra's new Chief Minister a few days back after ousting Balsaheb Thackeray's son Uddhav from the post.
And guess what reason he gave to form a majority group within the party?
He questioned Uddhav's politics was a departure from Shiv Sena’s Hindutva.
Shiv Sena was founded in 1966 as a Mumbai-based voicing Marathi Manoos’ concerns and remained so for the next two decades. Then, with the adoption of Hindutva and Hindu nationalism as its core political ideology in the 1980s, Shiv Sena saw unprecedented growth across the state of Maharashtra.
In 1989, the party entered an alliance with BJP for Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly elections.
Shiv Sena and BJP-led alliance formed government in Maharashtra for the first time in 1995. Shiv Sena's prominent leader Manohar Joshi became the Chief Minister at that time.
Then for almost two decades, the two parties were like Karan-Arjun in Maharashtra politics keeping Hindutva as the centre of all politics. But post Balasaheb Thackeray’s passing away, Shiv Sena and its Hindutva started to dilute in nature.
Somehow Shiv Sena and BJP's coalition stood strong during the 2014 election but it fell after that. Shiv Sena broke their alliance with the BJP in 2019 and formed a government in Maharashtra with Congress and NCP.
However, the government lasted only for 31 months as many Shiv Sena leaders failed to understand what Uddhav Thackeray’s design of Hindutva would be.
