3:17Now PlayingAs per the latest directive of the Supreme Court of India, an unmarried woman can opt for abortion for 24-weeks pregnancy. The top court's ruling came out today. The bench, led by Justices DY Chandrachud, found that the decision of the Delhi High Court declining women an interim relief is an "unduly restrictive" view of the provisions of the MTP, Medical Termination of Pregnancy, Act. The apex court ruled that an unmarried woman can abort her pregnancy of 24-weeks emerging out of a live-in relationship, but this is subject to the opinion of the medical board constituted by the AIIMS Delhi confirming that the abortion won't risk the life of the woman.
