Supriyo was cabinet minister in modi goverment before last assembly elections in the state. Governor La Ganesan administered the oath of office to Supriyo, Snehasis Chakraborty, Partha Bhowmik, Udayan Guha, and Pradip Majumdar at Raj Bhavan. A tribal leader named Birbaha Hansda and a minister of state with independent charge named Biplab Roy Chowdhury took the oath. The change occurs as the party is under criticism for the now-suspended minister Partha Chatterjee's detention in the case involving the education fraud.
