The recent fee hike by IIT Bombay met with strong opposition from several students who decided to go on a hunger strike. The administration's statement justifying the hike was met with further opposition. "It is only in India that scholarships are fully funded and provided for all the programs", says Professor A K Mittal, Former, Secretary-General, All India IIT Faculty. "Lately, we have been noticing a substantial decline in the funding of higher education including centrally funded institutions", says Furqan Qamar, Former Advisor (Education) Planning Commission of India.
