In its first non-Gandhi presidential election in 25 years, the Congress will choose between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor. The Gandhis' preferred choice unofficially is Mr. Kharge, an 80-year-old. Mr. Kharge, who today submitted his nomination. Even Mr. Tharoor submitted his nominations today before the deadline of 3 pm. The third candidate in the race, former Jharkhand minister K N Tripathi, has also submitted his papers. Digvijaya Singh withdrew from the race after receiving his nomination papers yesterday.
