All six of the defendants in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case have been ordered to be released by the Supreme Court. The Tamil Nadu government recommended their release in September 2018, the court stated in it pronouncement of its decision. "Why should the hon'ble supreme court invoke special powers under section 142, which nobody in the nation has," asks Abhishek Singhvi. And as it might be in a lesser or regular offence, moreover he says that mere administrative considerations cannot ever be the basis.
