2:18Now PlayingMK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, scheduled an all-party conference for November 12 to deliberate their response to the Supreme Court's decision on Monday granting 10% of the seats to members of economically disadvantaged groups (EWS). According to a statement from the state government, the chief minister sent letters to each of the legislative party leaders. The consultative meeting, which will take place in the secretariat, will be open to two representatives from each legislative party. "We argued that what is economically weaker section as it is not determined in the Constitution. The amendment also gives extra ordinary power to the state while keeping the SC/ST and OBC classes away. While there are no yard sticks or guidelines to identify EWS, the Central government says Rs 8 lakh per annual income is the criteria. The state can increase it to any amount. It violates the basic structure of the Constitution. Our argument was that you can’t have economic criteria as the basis of reservation," said DMK MP and advocate P Wilson post the SC verdict.
