The politician has been charged with violating Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which prohibits upsetting a woman's modesty. The politician announced his resignation as an MLA on Twitter after the allegations. On November 13, when Chief Minister Eknath Shinde arrived to officially open the Mumbra-Shilphata Y-Junction flyover, the complainant claims the NCP leader grabbed her hand and shoved her aside as she made her way to meet the CM with other persons. Meanwhile, outside the Vartak Nagar police station in Thane, NCP members and Jitendra Awhad's supporters staged protests.
