3:52Now PlayingThe Supreme Court dismissed a PIL challenging the formation of a committee to examine the feasibility of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand on Monday, providing a significant boost to the BJP's Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Panels. The Supreme Court stated that states have the authority to do so. The CJI stated that the constitution of the committees formed by Gujarat and Uttarakhand to draft the UCC is being challenged. According to Article 162, the executive power of states extends to what the legislature allows it to do, such as making divorce, inheritance, and maintenance rules. The Centre had previously stated that the decision to draft the UCC lay with parliament. CJI Chandrachud agreed, saying it is the domain of the legislature.
