In Financial Minister's budget speech, Nirmala Sitharaman made several major announcements for hardworking middle-class citizens who pay taxes. These are known as new income tax slabs, and the government has decided to make them the default tax regime. However, the old income tax slab system has not been repealed. Instead, when it comes to paying their taxes, taxpayers now have the option of choosing between the two regimes. Under the new tax regime, Sitharaman has proposed raising the exemption limit to Rs 7 lakh, which means that a taxpayer will not be required to pay any tax up to this amount.
