At the time, Kaka won FIFA World Player of the Year, with the former Barcelona captain coming in second. 15 years later, on Tuesday in Paris, Messi received his seventh award as the FIFA player of the year. The FIFA World Player of the Year award has already been won by Messi, one of the most decorated players in the history of the beautiful game, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2023.
