The trade body will hold this protest to draw the attention of the government towards the need for a solution and a reduction in the electricity prices. According to reports, Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission had hiked the rate of 70 paisa per unit of electricity in the state on May 12. It announced another hike of 51 paisa per unit under the pretext of fuel and power purchase cost adjustment charge after the new government was elected in the state.
