34:15Now PlayingIn this episode of Beyond The Headline, host Tamanna Inamdar will discuss how the governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi, removed V Senthil Balaji from the Council of Ministers on Thursday with immediate effect. In a number of incidents of corruption, including accepting payment in cash for work and money laundering, Minister V Senthil Balaji is subject to significant criminal proceedings. He has been interfering with the inquiry and impeding the fair administration of justice by abusing his position as a minister. With immediate effect, the Governor has removed him from the Council of Ministers due to these circumstances. He is now being held under court supervision in a criminal case that the Enforcement Directorate is looking into. The state police are looking into some further criminal charges against him under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, he said. A day after Balaji's judicial detention was extended until July 12, the Governor took action. Balaji was taken into custody on June 14 by the central agency in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He served as the Tamil Nadu government's Minister of Electricity and Prohibition and Excise. We are joined by a few panelists will be expressing their views on this issue. “As long as DMK govt has a majority in the house, the governor cannot act as whim and fancy; Balaji is innocent until proven guilty,” stated Salem Dharanidharan, DMK spokesperson.
